Just call me Stella, cuz I think I’ve got my groove back….
I think I’m back!! YAY! It’s been several crazy weeks since you’ve last heard from me and many crazy months since I’ve been able to write as much as I would like, but I am making this site one of my priorities because I miss writing, but mostly I miss hearing back from my readers! (I’ve even been told that some of you miss reading about my antics! So here I am!)
Last update was after Anthony’s birthday celebration. We were heading into the school year. Labor Day weekend was wide open and the plan was to use the three glorious days to get organized, get back on track with working out, my eating was on target, and to get ready to cruise into the school year. Then Friday morning I got a horrible phone call. My cousin called with very bad news about my dear Uncle Mike. They were sending him home from the hospital, saying there was nothing more that could be done and he would leave us in days to weeks.
This was like a punch in the heart. Unfortunately my parents had JUST arrived overseas for a long vacation, and I had to call them to tell them what was happening. But in the wake of such devastating news, something great happened. Everyone dropped everything and went home to New England. My parents came from Europe, my other Aunt and Uncle came from Florida, we packed up both kids, ourselves and my parents’ dog, who we were taking care of, scooped up my brother on the way and drove 13 hours, getting in at 3 am. It didn’t matter what we had planned… We all just came together. We had a beautiful visit with him, I got to introduce him to Jack and I got to say goodbye. He passed on September 11. We are all heart broken. I may write more about this at some point in time, but for now, it’s just too painful. But the reason for my sharing this with you is to give you a basis for a massive shift in my perspective.
For a while after this happened, I just sort of fell apart. I found comfort in nachos, I didn’t want to do anything but sit on the couch and I just was feeling pretty low. But that is not the person I want to be. I’m trying to focus. Focus on my marriage, focus on my kids, focus on all of our health and well being, and especially focus on my entire family. I want my kids to have as many wonderful days as possible and I want them to have a Mom that they can be proud of, because you just don’t know what the next phone call with bring.
SO here I am. Day 3 of full on healthy eating, Day 2 of exercise, and working hard on getting everything back in order! 🙂 And boy does it feel good to be back. I am signed up to run a 5K on October 30, so I am in full training mode. I backed up to week 5 of the c25K because it’s been a while and I needed to ease back in, but my plan is to follow the plan MWF with other cardio workouts in between. In a few weeks I’d like to start the P90X again, because all the lovely tone and muscle that I had earned is looking awfully jiggly these days, and I DON’T like it!
I did break up with Weight Watchers online. It was a great learning tool, but someone recommended My Fitness Pal to me, and so far I LOVE it.
1. It’s Free.
2. It tracks all of your calories and exercise and does MATH for you.
3. To track food, all you do is scan the bar code if you are using the app on your phone!
4. It’s FREE!! (Hey, I’m a full on couponer now, we LOVE free!)
When you set it up you enter your current weight (which, sadly, was 9 pounds higher than my very lowest, BUT I’m already down a pound from that!!) then you enter your target weight, how active you are, and how much you want to lose per week. It calculates how many net calories you should aim for. When you enter in your work outs, it automatically gives you credit for calories burned. SWEET!!!
I will keep you posted on how it goes.
Everyone else is doing pretty well. Curtis is busy with work as always. Anthony is doing beautifully in first grade. It’s amazing to me to listen to him read or to watch him spell words correctly. (He is a MUCH better speller than I am!) He is playing Coach Pitch baseball this year (“NO MORE T-BALL, THIS IS BIG TIME”, I was told) but his first game and first few practices were rained out. They have had 3 practices total so far, and that went well. Grandpa just bought him a new bat and red bat bag, so clearly that will improve his game dramatically. 🙂
On to Jack Daniel, oh where do I start…. Mr Jack, aka Country Club or Party Boy, is quite the little ham. He LOVES to be around people. He is crawling all over the house, pulling himself up to standing, trying to climb and has started cruising (walking while holding on the furniture, people, etc). He LOVES to eat and is starting to eat veggies and fruits mashed up, instead of pureed into baby food form. He is such a happy baby. He laughs easily, and when he looks at you, you can just tell he is going to be mischief. Not REALLY bad, but definitely feisty.
So you are pretty much up to date with the current situation. Watch for more craziness coming soon. I’ll have to tell you all about the drive to and from New England. It was NOT pretty.
Now, leave some comment love and let me know what you are up to…
